Specialization is a double edged sword.  Specialization should bring with it knowledge and experience, which is a good thing, but it also brings ignorance and apathy; what I don’t specialize in I don’t know about and I don’t care about.  Specialized technology companies do not care about the health of your network, they only care about their specific hardware or application.   To make this worse, specialization should bring knowledge and experience, but we have all worked with enough vendors to know that this is not  always (shall we say usually) the case.
